Front-end web developer position

We are looking for a talented and enthusiastic middleweight front-end web developer to join the Whiteroom Digital team in our beautiful barn conversion office here in Wellesbourne, Warwickshire - fairly close to junctions 13-15 of the M40.

For starters, you must have plenty of experience in building accessible, standards-compliant and responsive web front-ends using HTML, CSS (although we’d much prefer it if you were a SASS/SCSS expert) and JavaScript (jQuery experience is a definite plus). If you’ve just used Bootstrap without any customisation for your front-end builds, you’re probably not experienced enough - we need someone who knows general front-end web development inside-out.

In addition to that, it would be great if you had experience in one or more front-end frameworks. We’re currently settled on Vue.js, but if you’re more versed in React or Angular, that’s great - we just need you to be a quick learner of syntax and understand the general philosophy of JS frameworks and building single-page applications. It would be extremely useful if you were familiar with JavaScript build systems, such as Webpack, Gulp and Grunt, as we like using these to ease our development and deployment processes.

Although we have dedicated back-end development resource, you’ll need to formulate and handle HTTP requests/responses in terms of being able to consume a REST API in the framework. We’re big fans of JSON-API, so if you’ve got experience in following that particular specification, all the better.

As well as bespoke apps, we do a lot of work with client-administered content management system (CMS) based websites. We currently work with Craft CMS, so if you have experience in that, fantastic. However, even if you don’t have any experience in Craft, you might have some previous experience in the template language it uses - the excellent Twig - by the creators of the Symfony PHP framework. Again, even if you’ve never used Twig before, you’ve probably used something similar in another CMS. Reckon you can pick up front-end templating language syntaxes fairly quickly? We still want to hear from you.

Do you know Git? Subversion? Mercurial? It doesn’t really matter, as long as you understand the concept of version control for code and can get to grips with using Git straight away. We’re using SourceTree to make life easier, so if you also know that - great!

Finally, an important requirement is that you’ll need to be an excellent communicator. You will be a vital ‘point’ in the design/front-end/back-end ‘triangle’ that makes up the Whiteroom Digital team, so listening carefully and expressing your ideas and opinions in an effective manner are crucial for this role. You’ll also be present in meetings with clients and management, so the right temperament for this kind of interaction is definitely something the ideal candidate must possess.

Salary will reflect experience. We’re looking for a mid-level developer, who is hungry to grow and learn more.

To apply, please email your CV, plus links to example sites/apps together with a brief description of your involvement in them, to studio@whiteroomuk.com. Please ensure you put the word ’CAREERS’ in the subject line.

Can we help you with your next project?
